Check an insurance agent's license

Before you buy a policy, see what the Texas Department of Insurance has on file for the agent selling it: whether the license is active, which lines of insurance it covers, and when it expires.

Search by the agent’s full name, or their Texas license number. The license number belongs on their website, their email signature and every quote.

Browse by city

How many are licensed in each place, from the state’s own file, and the agents who sponsor that page.

What this does not tell you Complaints, lawsuits, or how good the agent is. A license on file means the state has authorized them for the lines or the work shown, and that is all it means. Ask for references, and read reviews.

Questions people ask

How do I check if an insurance agent is licensed in Texas?

Search the agent’s name or license number above. The result comes from the Texas Department of Insurance’s own published license file. Confirm anything important on TDI’s official lookup, linked on every result.

What does "property and casualty" mean on a license?

It is the license to sell home, auto and business insurance. A "personal lines" license covers home and auto only. Life, accident and health is a separate license.

Does an active license mean the agent is good?

No. It means the state has a current license on file for the lines shown. It says nothing about service, price or complaints.
